Human Bodies Exhibition

This past saturday I went to the Bodies Exhibition at Seaport. The admission ticket was $24 and some change. As pricey as it was, I wasn't disappointed. Basically the concept of this exhibition is to try to educate us about our bodies externally and internally using "real" preserved human bodies. There was a big controversy over this exhibition because of the bodies that were used. Supposedly, they used unidentified humans from china and of prisoners for this project. It was a bit disturbing looking at each specimen because these were actually people once.. living people at that. Just because they were never identified or we don't know who they are..does that warrant the right to use them for scientific or artistic purposes? I think one piece that stood out the most was an actual preserved body of a woman with a fetus inside. That was just disturbing and surreal. They also showed actual preserved fetuses at each stages of their lives ranging from 9 weeks all the way to a full grown fetus. MORBID! I think the most fascinating aspect of this whole exhibition is that you get to see the inside of your bodies in ways that would never ever would. You get to learn how each organ, artery, vein, nerve are all interconnected with each other how each part works in conjuction with each other.
The whole premise of this exhibition was to try to enlighten us on our bodies so that we may try to take care of it. At the end of the exhibition there was a writing on the wall that said that each subject was treated with the dignity and respect they deserved. Somehow i doubt that.
Nonetheless, it was a very interesting exhibition and definitely worth seeing. You will be fascinated and amazed.
